WOODWORKING AS THERAPY

  • SOCIAL SKILLS/COMMUNICATION:

Woodworking provides the context for naturally developing and improving social skills and communication.  These include descriptive language, respect for tools and materials, self regulation, cooperation and social harmony.

  • PHYSICAL REHABILITATION

Balance, coordination, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, hand eye coordination, and strength are all woodworking skills developed when performing the task required.

  • COGNITIVE SKILLS

Decision making, planning, conceptualization, sorting, calculating, creativity, assertiveness and problem solving are all skills that are developed, from choosing a project through to the finishing details.
